Teachers (Union) and Their Communities

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "BOE- Will You Have the Guts in July?":

I teach in another school district on Long Island. My teachers' union is voluntarily working something out (combination pay raise/give back) with both our BOE and the other unions (administrators/support staff). We've ALL decided that this recession requires sacrifice on everyone's part. We've gotten nothing but kudos from our community. It is possible for teachers to have a true partnership with their community.

  1. Oops! I made a big mistake in this posting. I didn't mean "pay raise/give back." I meant "pay freeze/give back." Wow! That could really change the fabric of what I was trying to say. Sorry for that.

  2. That is the way it is supposed to be . The union, their members, and the community working for together with same goals in mind. Congratulations to you , your fellow teachers , union members and the school's BOE

  3. I agree. The community would be happy to support the teachers as long as the teachers are also happy to support the community. This last contract negotiation sadly shows no such reciprocity.

  4. I would love to hear a voice from one of our well paid teachers on their view with this subject and what their Idea would be to curb our taxes from going to the moon(they are already through the roof).Maybe one of the administrators can come up with a comment for this one. Could we even be lucky enough to get Mr. Rosenfeld to answer? highly unlikely
