BOE Responsive, Admin., Another Story

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "You Can Always Communicate With the Board- In Pers...":

If you send an email to a board member or write a letter via the superintendent's office, they will follow up with you. Give them a chance. They are our advocates in the district and I have found them to be very supportive.

The administration, well that's another story.

Administration Needs to Address Parental Concerns Better

I posted an earlier comment in support of Ms. Gierasch. My opinion has changed drastically. She, as well as other administrators in this district, need to develop stronger skills in speaking to parents. She's probably quite comfortable here as she knows how to divert parental concerns but is unable to listen and effect change. To her, as with others, it's all about defending what's not defend able, covering up what shouldn't be covered up and although this could never be proven, manipulating the district's test scores so it appears that quality education is taking place. If enough people complain, it's possible she won't be here very long but parents have to be willing to speak up.

Employees Don't Care About The Employer's and Factory's Hardships

I would not call what we have is sub standard education. The problem we have is our BOE is out of touch with reality. When hundreds of teachers are being laid off throughout the state ,the state is in a hole for 9-13 billion, the feds are in a hole for trillions etc that the BOE can give raises out is ridiculous. On top of that we have teachers that care more about money and show no regard at all for the hardships that Plainview residents are enduring. Look around Plainview and see how many homes are for sale. Teachers could care less. They have blinders on when they drive to and from work. all they see is the paycheck and the golden parachute pension that most if not all of us will never see.

The Problem Starts at the Bottom

It's Not The Teachers ??
Are you kidding?
Who did I see walking the picket line in front of my childrens school?
who did I see at the BOE meetings whining about how much they are supposedly unfairly treated?
who walked around the schools with disgraceful and unprofessional "contract now" shirts
who demanded unreasonable contract raises at a time when the residents who pay teachers salaries are either unemployed, financially strapped, or are working 12hrs a day to pay their taxes?
It is not the Board of Ed
it is not the administrators
the answer to all of the above
Teachers.
The problem starts from the bottom up
All through out the state teachers are being laid off and our teachers have the nerve to want more money. And who is at fault?

The Problem Starts at the Top, and Trickles Down

This school district could stand for a lot of improvement. It's not the teachers. The administration (not all but enough to be problematic) is the weak link from the district level right down to the buildings.

For This Substandard Education, I Will Vote the Budget Down

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "POB Board; Always Putting the Students and Taxpaye...":

Whether or not people vote for the budget comes down to their own individual experiences. Some always vote for it because they believe it will keep their property values up. Others always vote against it because they want to keep their taxes down. Some vote according to what they feel the school district is doing for their individual children. If they believe their children are receiving a superior education, they vote "yes." If not, they vote, "no." In summary, it comes down to the following question. What's in my best interest?

Personally, paying high taxes so my children can receive a substandard education is a waste of time. I intent to vote against it. If I felt my kids' experience were different, I'd vote differently. I wonder if others feel as I do.

POB Teachers Have Sense of Entitlement, Not All On L.I. are This Way

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "No Tough Decisions, We Need a Change of Direction ...":

I'm a teacher in another school district. Our contract is not up for another two years. We've already decided our wilingness to go without a raise if the economy is still so bad when our time comes to renew. We NEVER do some of the things the PCT has done this year, NEVER!!!! Our allegiance is to the children. Our administration and parent body knows this and thus they treat us accordingly. It's a shame that there are so many in this district with such a sense of entitlement. I hope everyone realizes the PCT does not speak for all teachers on Long Island.
