Suzala, can you start a new thread for the posting dated 6/27/11 @8:44PM? It's unlikely anyone will see it otherwise. Thanks.

  3. Taxpayers are paying for curricullum writing to be done over the summer.

Whether or not teachers will actually follow and teach the new curriculum is another question.

  10. The comments that you just made are in fact just a comments and not a facts... A Hunch?
You can feel anyway you want about any matter... This is America, but that doesn't mean the entire community agrees with you.
It is my experience that Mr. Dempsey IS concerned with with various matters in our schools and community. He does have a good track record. I have attended many board of Ed meeting throughout the years and I have seen him make solutions and positive changes. It is clear he wants to work with the parents and teachers. I had some serious issues with a teacher and some other matters regaring my children and he helped me right away. I feel we are better off with him... he has made positive changes.
I'm sure many of you have your owm views... But I see him as a team player and a blessing for our community.

  11. He also at times acts like the politician he is going through the motions with double talk. That is part of the whole problem in our district . we need a Board of Ed that has the guts to make the right and tough decisions for our school in the best interest of children , parents , and taxpayers. I am waiting to see what they do with the new tax cap for the 2012-2013 school year

  12. Posting that one person's views are comments while another's are facts is impolite and non-productive to a discussion. One person's experience could be very different from another's experience for many reasons. The poster on July 12th could have just as easily posted his/her views without starting with an attack on another poster's comments. Nobody has the right to speak for the entire community regardless of how strongly he/she feels about any issue.

I started this thread to raise a discussion about the associate superintendent, not sure how it turned into a conversation about Mr. Dempsey. In any event, I wish everyone would offer factual details when they argue that positive changes have been made. What positive changes have been made in Plainview in the last two years? Who made them?

  13. Regarding the July 14th post, I agree with ever word... THANK YOU!!! People are rude... and sometimes there are comments posted that are so off base.. thats a fact. Thank you again for your insight. Lets try to stick with the issues, people use this blog for misdircted anger and many times solutions can't be made... sad.

  16. To 7/14 - 10:26PM,

If you are the parent described in your posting, I am so sorry for what you've gone through. If you are not the parent, kudos to you for sharing the details. A common problem, not only in Plainview, is that when such things occur, people are quick to look the other way. On some level, perhaps, people are afraid to admit how terrible things can get. In some way, it's almost easier to dismiss the messenger as misinformed or worse, crazy. The realization that the system we pay so much for has its flaws, sometimes unbelievably so, is too much for many to handle.

For whatever it's worth, I believe everything you posted. The district can sweep whatever they want under the rug as can its residents. That does not change what happened. The child you mentioned is fortunate to have a parent advocate. I shudder to think how many children were left in that teacher's class completely powerless to the bullying you describe.

I had an instructional issue (or should I say lack thereof) that was unconscionable (Forgive my spelling please). I worked my way up the ladder and was basically given a similar runaround. The higher ups were actually nasty/bordering on unprofessional about the whole thing. The superintendent eventually saw the light and realized I had a significant case, paper trail and all, against the district. He made an effort to set the situation right, wasn't totally effective in it but there was at least a mild improvement in the situation. For fear of my child's safety and well being, I hesitate to give more details. My experience with the administration on this sent a clear message that the individual child, mine or anyone else's, is not the priority and some will stop at nothing to protect themselves and each other at the expense of just about everything else even if it means resorting to dishonesty.

  17. Yes that was my child and I am fortunate that my child suffered no long term effects of this bullying . My point to post tis was that I pursued this case not only for my child but for the other children in our district as this teacher has been known to bully children year after year . I did not want to hear in the coming years that more children were being bullied .This teacher I know represents a very small percentage of the teachers we have in our district . I know this may not be a wide spread problem, but 1 is too many and it was disapointing that the super do what I would of like him to do . Thats all I would say . I do not want to drag this issue on just make it known.

  18. What middle school did this happen in?

  19. This blog has become as much about parents supporting each other as it is about raising awareness of issues that need to be addressed. That's what community is all about. We can agree or disagree with each other but if we want our position, whatever it may be, to be taken seriously, we need to be polite about it. In other words, disagreeing with someone is not license to be impolite or combative.

  20. The incident happened in POB. The teacher from what I understand from one school administrator on my side has told me that this teacher has been moved around from one school to another because everyone knows they are a problem teacher and nothing can be done about it because the teacher knows he/she has tenure which makes it almost impossible to get rid of them

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's not impossible to get rid of a teacher with tenure. I'm in the field. I know. I've done it. The problem is the administrators don't want to do what it takes to make it happen.

What subject does this teacher teach?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree. If administration seriously wants to get rid of a "poor" teacher, they CAN! But no one here in administration seems to be willing to "rock the boat" of the union. It's our children's loss!

    ReplyDelete
  23. It really doesnt matter what subject the teacher teaches. The administrators and the BOE do not have the guts to go up against the PCT when they have to . That is a fact that they have shown for years .

    ReplyDelete
  24. The BOE needs to be replaced . There needs to be term limits for the BOE . and more accountability of the adminstrators
