Football Game Play Superceeds Safety. Really?

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Pressured to Perform, Not Pressured to Learn":

A.M. UPDATE: All 18 Players OK after Suffering Hypothermia at Plainview JFK Game

Twelve students hospitalized after playing in frigid, rain-soaked conditions. All players now reported OK; two adults hospitalized with cardiac problems.

The weather report was broadcast way ahead. Who was the brilliant decision maker here? Was this game that important to jeopardize the health of students and supporters? I would appreciate some response on this.

  1. Where were these children's parents?? Why were the parents leaving this decision to coaches? I cannot believe that parents were not walking onto the field and removing their children from the field! Is a game more important then the safety of our children? Of course, the children wanted to play!! Children have, notoriously, bad judgement.

  2. This was downplayed by football players - we wanted to play, we trust our coahces, they know what is best, etc, but the pictures on thepatch look serious to me, it wasn't a surpriae storm. one look out the window kept my family in the house that day. It is hard to trust the school district to make judgements about the safety of children after this avoidable drama,
