Plainview Diner Doesn't Care About Plainview Citizens-Time to Boycott

I found myself sitting on the front step of the Plainview Diner tonight having just caught my toe (in open-toed sandles ) on the low parking barrier curbs right at the foot of the steps. They are not painted yellow and are rather small and I didn't see it and almost fell over. Luckily I didn't, but it pulled the nail off my toe and it was bleeding profusely. A friend I was with went in and explained the situation and came out with some hydrogen peroxide and some tissues and bandaids. The manager never came out to see if I was okay. When I came in, I told him what happened and he shrugged and said they have always been there. He didn't ask if I was okay,
I had no intention of sueing him, but the way he treated me, sends a clear message of where they stand on people who eat there. I will not return, and suggest that unless you want to be treated the same way, you shouldn't either.

  1. I have no connection with the Plainview Diner . I just think that this is not the way to go with issues concerning businesses with regard to suggesting that we boycott a business. My suggestion is to get the name of the manager and all the employees that you talked to. Then find out who the owner is and call him/her and explain the issue to them. I would think that they would listen to your concerns to avoid any negative efffects on their business as well as the possibility of being sued.

  2. While I agree with you in spirit, sadly it was an owner that I spoke to. Additionally, it is not the first time I have received less than cordial attitudes from them. Having spoken to three neighbors, I heard comparable stories. I guess that is why it was so empty last night.

  3. I guess if you spoke to the owner then maybe you should think twice before going back there. That is not a good sign when an owner of a business lacks any concern for their customers . hopefully your toe feels better. If that happened at shoprite you would of seen a different outcome. I have very often seen the owner of shoprite walking around the store talking to customers . Very impressive in my books. a hands on owner. Never had a problem with any of the employees in the store either

  4. Similar thing happened with my son inside the Plainview Diner; the management seemed unconcerned about his injuries. When I returned to file an accident report (post-stitches) the manager took my info and handed me a large chocolate chip cookie for my troubles. No apology. He didn't pick up the dinner check, didn't ask how my son was doing, just gave me a cookie.

  5. The Plainview Diner has never been known for its charm. While I've never had an experience like you did (and I am sorry for it and hope you're all right), I've noticed an arrogant nastiness/lack of welcoming customer service at the Plainview Diner, particularly by the owner.

  6. The way I see it, it was an unfortunate accident. I am glad you are okay and sorry one of the owners apparently treated you poorly. That being said, to try to drive a local business of 50 plus years out of business because of your toe seems a bit excessive. I've looked at the JFKHS scholarship lists and it seems there has been a Plainview Diner supported scholarship for many years. Does one inappropriate act by management justify a full scale boycott? Perhaps you might call up and explain again how disappointed you were..or perhaps vote with your feet (no pun intended) and not go back yourself. However, as a small business owner, just sensitive to someone trying to destroy a business.

  7. Plainview diner sucks! Terrible food, service is same. Its amazing they are in business still with so many other options (I prefer Blue Angel--and have no affiliation). But there is also On Parade and Celebrity.
Would love it if someone took over the Burger King spot and the spot next door and made a really great destination restaurant. We need one in Plainview. Something like Mim's in Syosset would be great!

  8. Personally, I avoid the Plainview Diner as I agree the owner does not corner the market in charm. It's one of very few diners in the area, perhaps the only one that's open late (Sorry I don't know the hours of the Blue Angel Diner down the street). It's not likely to close. Too many people overlook it's shortcomings in favor of its convenience, I suppose.

The On Parade Diner in Woodbury, Celebrity in Syosset and the Broadway Diner in Jericho have are much more courteous than the Plainview Diner. You may want to try those in the future.
