Just as Badly Organized at POB for 6th Graders

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "First Day at POB and and the Disappointments Start...":

How about 6th grade at POB? This is the same old excuses for the incompetence. It was the mail etc.... Paperwork arrives today all disheveled in the envelope, 5 teachers listed on the class supply list , no schedule or explanation as to who teaches what and why there are 5 teachers listed with one teacher as HR? Why so many teachers and who teaches what? After 9 years of this , It's really hard to stay positive when even the simple things are disorganized in the start of the year. With my tax bill rising every year, I do have the right to complain and I am not being proactive to do someone else's job!

  1. The 5th grade packet had pages every which way - right side up, upside down, sideways, PTA notices, letters from the school nurse, supply lists, emergency cards, etc. all in a big jumble. I got a headache just looking at it.

  2. YOU had to turn notices right side up! What!! I am apalled. Please contact someone immediately. Let no day go by without a complaint for that will be a wasted day!! Remember, no one (no town, no school, no business, no family members or friends) WILL EVER do anything right or to your standards so keep complaining and you will certainly have many happy years ahead.

  3. YES WE DO HAVE STANDARDS AND SHOULD NOT TOLERATE THE INCOMPETENCE AND SLOPPY WORK DONE EVERYWHERE IN THIS DISTRICT. IF YOU WORKED IN THE REAL CORPORATE WORLD WHERE THE STOCK PRICE IS DRIVEN BY PERFORMANCE.....YOU WOULD BE FIRED!!!!!END OF STORY!

  4. If this were corporate america you would of been fired for the way you operate. Wake up POB residents. The school district has no competition so they could care less if the papers are upside down, backwards etc. They wonder why residents are so angry. Besides all the dumb things that go on, the level of arrogance in the school district is unbeleivable

  5. Well said, I agree! All these people do is complain day after day. So... you had to fix some papers? Big deal!

  7. I am not a POBMS parent yet. As a middle school teacher in another district, allow me to make a few points here.

    First of all, from what is being described about the packets (missing schedules, supply lists arriving so late in the summer, etc), these are either secretarial or administrative errors. Not the best PR for the district and understandably annoying but I would not yet worry too much that this will ultimately disturb your children's education.

    They stuff the packets one at a time. Although it lessens how professional the packet appears to the taxpayer, it's really not something that will affect the chilren's well being.

  8. My childrens well being? the school screws up the schedule, and the same old story ,well get back to you? incompetence at its best. I would not blame the administrative staff . They are probably the people working the hardest in the district who do not get paid 6figures$$$$$ like the teachers and adminstrators. why are the schedules delivered so late?? why not give them out in june or july. other school districts do that . Oh thats right those other school districts agreed to wage freezes and also worked with the school district for the best interest of all involved. How could I forget.

  9. The raises being discussed on the blog seem to be related to the teachers' contracts. The packets are stuffed by the support staff. I'm not happy with the teachers either but this is not their area.

  10. Schedules used to be given out eariler-guess what happened? They were lost. And had to be reissued again. By sending them out closer to the start of the school year there is less chance with them being misplaced & having to be replaced. (Saves money).

    What difference does it make when you get the schedule? June or late August/early September?

    You all just love nit picking left and right.

  11. By sending them out later in the year there is less of a chance of parents having an opportunity to FIX problems with them before school starts.

    I guess all your kids educational needs are always perfect and work out.

  12. I'll reserve my right to "nit pick" so long as I'm paying for administrators to get salaries that are in line with top-paying jobs in corporate America. If administrators want to get paid like buiness people and not civil servants than the school district needs to be run like a professional business, one that hold themselves to high standards, and not like low-level government bureaucracy.

    When outcomes happen like this, EVERYONE should be questioning what's going on here and demanding something better. I don't think I'm the only one sick of the excuses.

  13. Whether it is the timing of opening packets being sent out or the specific instruction/education of the students, special needs, gifted and everyone in between, the bottom line is simple. The school district really does not care about the children. While there are definitely exceptions to this rule, most employees, from the custodial staff all the way up to district office, are there to collect a paycheck, advance their own careers and eventually a collect a pension. It would not be fair to say that everyone is like this but the percentage who are not like this is far too small.

    Over and over again parent concerns are dismissed without appropriate investigations into their legitimacy. Sadly, there are among us some, not all but a significant enough number, of district employees whose prejudices preclude them from ever taking many of us seriously. Whether this stems from gender biases, cultural generalizations toward many different groups within this wonderfully diverse community, socio-economic assumptions or an arrogance/power play as to what a home-school partnership truly is, it is a terrible problem in this district that perhaps needs to be acknowledged.
