Everyone - we need to mobilize to ensure this does not become a viable option to the casino planners.

The Shinnecock Indian Nation is considering an extensive Plainview property owned by Charles Wang, the owner of the New York Islanders, as a potential casino site.

According to tribal trustee Lance Gumbs, the Shinnecocks recently looked at the 144 acres of mostly woodland between Old Country Road and Round Swamp Road.

The parcel is attractive as a casino site, Gumbs said, due to its proximity to the Long Island Expressway and because it's a far larger piece of property than some of the others the tribe is considering, including the land around the Nassau Coliseum owned by the county. The Coliseum is the home of the Islanders.

  1. Should of let Mr. Wong build the homes at the location. We wouldn't have this problem.

  2. No, I don't want a casino, but I can't help but wonder how much less my school taxes would be- and no additional bodies added to the student population! However, Old Country Road (especially near 135 -to go south),would be just a unbelievable mess! And what a detrimental change in character it would be for this town.

  3. Forget about your taxes, your property values would drop drastically with a casino in Plainview. Think about the element that casinos attract. Our houses would be worth nothing. Try selling a house then and getting a decent value on it. I have 3 children, I certainly don't want a casino in my town. I have already contacted the Concerned Citizens of Plainview-Old Bethpage to see what efforts will be made to oppose this project. Hopefully we can create a strong enough opposition to make such a project impossble to go forward.

  4. They wouldn't let Wang build his home project one of the reasons being the amount of traffic and how the roads wouldn't be able to handle it. I don't think it would happen. This town has been poorly represented since Yevoli left office to go against Gulotta. We now have a Plainview resident who was appointed councilwoman since Rose Walker left, her name is Rebecca Alesia, we should give her our support this November. A Casino is the last thing we want in Plainview.

  5. Old OCuntry Rd near 135 is ALREADY a mess-ever try driving down Old Country rd between 4:00-6:00pm??? I am with the first person-we should have let Mr. Wang build his communities, houses, apartments, etc....too late to ask him now???

  6. I have written to our local politicians to not support this.

  7. I have been told that the Town of Oyster Bay would have to approve a zoning change for such a project. The town is not supportive of this project and would unlikely approve a zoning change. The chances of this ever coming here are slim.

  8. If we let Wang build his proposed development our taxes would be 50% higher now. Our aging school buildings are in desperate need of repair and even with the money that Wang proposed giving the school , it still would not of been enough money needed to fix the schools with the added children that would have come to the school. The only good that property will do for us is if it stays exactly the way it is now . Soccer fields. Whenever they tell you of a proposal for housing , remember the developers are low balling the numbers to their favor to get their project passed. Wang did that with his project, luckily it did not pass.
