Student Schedule Problems...?

Please post this as a seperate topic HOW IS YOUR CHILD'S SCHEDULE ? Year after year we are inundated with scheduling problems for our child . It always seems as though the adminstrators ignore most of our concerns or requests for our child in the school. I would like to know what other parents have experienced

In these bad economic times , when many people in our community are falling on hard times, It is unfair that the building PTA's are holding parents "feet to the fire" to pay to join the PTA. In the past , parents would only have to sign up for e-mails to get the informational e-mails notifying parents what was going on in the schools on a daily basis. People may have children in 2 or 3 places : POB Middle, JFK High School, SEPTA etc....so what this means is that parents now have to pay the $10 membership to join all 3 PTAs which could total up to $30 per family , just to get the information on clubs etc and what is going on in the schools. So if I can't afford the $30 now, it is just tough- No E-mails to let me know what is going on in my child's school. Is this fair PTA? No Parents should continue to get the e-mails and not be embarassed to expose their personal situations.

  2. Just ask them where the money goes. I know some of the leadership in the SEPTA &PTA have their own agenda . They are only concerned about their own child and thats it. As long as they get the most services for their child, even if their child does not need it they are happy. This is only a VERY small minority of the leadership in these two organizations but it is definitely known to exist. More in the upper grades than anywhere else

  3. Why wouldn't PTA keep the emails going to as many people as they can since they include messages for their fundraisers and things that affect all kids. Isn't PTA for all kkds? What is next? Only kids whose parents join PTA will be in Picture Day? This is a very unusal membership drive. I don't think PTA should be allowed to get info via school channels and then not include parents who don't join. Parents should join PTA if they want, not because they have to. I think this plan will backfire and create bad feelings in the community.

  4. The PTA is an elitist group that only cares about there own kids, and there bullies. I'm seriously considering moving out because of them. I'm tired of bad feelings in the community because of the PTA bullies in this community.

  5. What do they do with the money that they raise and collect? I would like to see the balance sheets and the accountability of where the money goes. and what is the point of founders day honoring teachers and administrators? As if they don't get paid enough , now they need to be honored? Do they(administrators) really go above and beyond what they should be doing for which they are getting paid alot of money? Half the time the administrators act as though they are doing you a favor by helping you.

HW- When is there too much HW
I have one child in middle school and I find this ridiculous that he spends up to 2hours a day on HW. Some days there is more hw than others. I also have a neice in the high school that also spends up to two hours doing HW. In addition to this, children are encouraged to join clubs, drama, cheerleading, and sports. I look at some of the hw. I wonder sometimes, are the children reviewing what they learned for the day or being given work to learn on their own. I would like to know what other parents opinions are on this .
