Teachers: Do Your Job. TEACH

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Improve the System, The Corvettes and the Kia's Wo...":

I agree. I can afford a nice car and a nice home too. But so long as I am forced to afford Kumon to compensate for the deficiencies in our education system, then the higher teachers salaries prove irrelevant. A higher payroll will not translate into better education.

On that note, my car...my business. Your car...your business. My childs education...is part of your job and in the end...you're not doing your part. Take the button off, put the sign down and teach!

  1. I would still like the people that must comment about what cars we drive this: WHY DID YOU BRING YOUR BATTLE TO THE CLASSROOM AND TO LITTLE KIDS INSTEAD OF LETTING DUE PROCESS HANDLE YOUR CAUSE?

  2. The teachers are proving to have no self respect by walking around the school with the contract now buttons on. Do they have any decency? The only people in the school during the day are our children . I guess the teachers care more about their contract and $$$$$$$ than they do about our children.

  3. My child came home from school today and announced the teachers new buttons with frown faces surrounded by other district names. Anyone see them?

  4. Everyone should quit their crying and whining. Board of Ed-get off your high horse. Sit down and negotiate (this school year is 1/4 of the way over) and get over yourselves. Quit being control freaks. Sit down and speak like adults. Nothing will be resolved until then. You are causing all of this trouble in the neighborhood. There is unity in the schools and the majority of the parents are very receptive to the teachers. I guess when the community has to vote this spring, there will be quit a stir in the make up of the Board. Many of our teachers live in the district. Of course, the community isnt too thrilled with what is going on with the teachers. I hope all of the citizens will make themselves heard through their votes and change our Board members.

  5. We are doing our jobs. Wearing a button will not cause anyone to not fulfill their obligations to the children. Parents would not have to hire tutors for their children if they would stop choosing to self select honors classes for their children. Younger children would not require tutors if their parents would spend some time with their children instead of brushing them off with video games and computers. Sit down with your children. Time goes too quickly. Parents get off your telephones and computers. Take your kids out for ice cream or a walk. Ask them their favorite thing to do in school or read a book with them. Communication skills are lacking in this town and it is obvious even with the adults!

  6. To the teacher telling me how to be a parent; as it has been said HUNDREDS of different ways in this blog, worry about doing your job...Not mine. If you really believe what you're saying, tell the parents that at conference night. I'm sure that you will sit there and smile and say how you're spending extra time with "Johnny" to give him a successful year. And why are you bringing your battle to the classroom? Who is there? Board members? The Superintendent? News 12? State and local politicians? NO... KIDS. So, you're trying to do what? My 7 year old is actually getting nervous because he thinks that the teachers are angry at the kids. And I should feel bad for you? Youre pathetic.

  7. Parents can't spend quality time w/ kids. We're at home teaching kids what they don't learn in school. Some teachers give homework but never actually teach the lesson. Can I submit a time sheet w/ all the hours I spend on home schooling?

  10. Teaching your kids is not quality time?
How do you know they don't teach the lesson. maybe your child is not paying attention! If you were to submit your time sheet then you might get paid like the teachers in Plainview, 41st out 52 school districts on Long Island.

  11. Pay the teachers what they deserve and they won't have to spend their time marching and holding signs. They could be in their rooms preparing for our kids! The teachers could be involved in grade level meetings, would be planning together, could spend more time setting up for centers, gathering materials, communicating with parents, etc...INSTEAD of marching and coming into their bulidings last minute. I am a teacher from a district close by. I have a nice salary and I know that I have to work hard for it to keep it and becasue I want the parents to see I appreciate it! Yes, I am a teacher but I also have my own life and my own children and my own bills to pay just like the Plainview teachers do. We all have things to take care of that are not job related. Why on earth would they even consider putting in extra time when they are not being compensated for it? You want them to act like Jericho, Syosset, Roslyn teachers? Pay them! Yes they love our kids but remember they are OUR kids not theirs! Teachers teach becasue they want to but it is NOT a volunteer job. Let the teachers get back to what they love, let the teachers focus on our kids and the curriculum...isn't that what's best for us?
