If the Administration Was Doing Their Job....

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Partnerships Between Parents and Schools?":

I don't think salaries correlate to quality of education or teacher ability. Salaries and raises are based on longevity and undeserving teachers get the same raises as more deserving teachers. Administrator output is not commensurate with their salaries. Our district is far too top heavy and generous considering the mess that exists. Parents concerns would be minimal if administration was doing their job watching and questioning and fixing what is going on. They are getting paid a lot to be managers and they should be managing and striving for improvements. There need to be district-wide standards and accountability to even things out among schools and classrooms. No one seems to care that some schools or classrooms do a whole lot more than others (except for the parents in the schools or classrooms that feel like they are being gypped).

  1. How about if the residents were doing their job as responsible residents . When residents in Plainview think about the issues in our school and look to blame somebody , they should look in the mirror first. I have seen too many BOE meetings where 20 or 30 residents showed up at the meeting. Pathetic that is what comes to my mind. With the out of control board of ed, lack of accountability of our administrators, overcompensation of our school employees, and ridiculous tax bills the board meetings should be packed every month. The amount of people voting should of been 3 or 4 times the amount that showed up. This did not happen so who do we blame? OURSELVES. You can talk all you want about what the board ,the administrators, and the teachers should do. this means nothing unless you go to the meetings and voice your concerns. The board will continue to be out of touch with the needs of the community and bullied by the teachers as long as you do not get involved. July starts the contract negotiations for the next teachers contract and they can not wait to start pushing their demands for higher salaries , more perks, higher step icreases etc etc

  2. I was at the POB middle school today for the graduation ceremonies. Everything was very nice . I just have to comment on a few things . To begin with , BOE member Gary Bettan showed up at the ceremony looking once again like he just came from a BBQ with the shirt hanging out of the pants. Does he have any respect for the institution to which he serves? Someone should educate him on appropriate attire when attending functions as a board member. It is disgraceful. The other issue is that the PTA pushes the wellness program. Why? when they serve potato chips and oreo cookies after the graduation. There may have been good intentions which are appreciated but common sense was missing today

  3. On such a hot day, I would say fruit would have been preferred.

  4. I wonder if the Board members that went to Stratford Moving Up Day noticed that a lot of memories the kids talked about centered around food - making gingerbread houses in Kindergarten, trying different foods at Heritage Day, having parties with food. Too bad they are stopping these traditions.
