POB Area Martial Arts Opinions Too, Please

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Which is the Best Pool to Join? Swimming Lessons?...":

While we're talking about activities, can we get some ratings on the martial arts centers in the area? Is any one better or worse than any other?

  1. My kid has been going to Karate for the last two years through PAL at Matlin Middle School. He thinks it's great. The Sensi is demanding but clearly adores teaching the kids. He has been teaching Karate for more than 25 years. The price is unbelievably inexpensive and my kid is very happy. What more could one want?

  2. Anyone know what they are doing over at the Southern Parkway Plainview Fire Station? Lots of fencing some road work, I give up.

  3. I don't know if it's still around but when my son was in nursery school we tried Peace Love Karate in Syosset and had a terrible experience. The owner played favorites and had little patience. She was saracstic and rude to parents in front of other parents. She also hassled another friend about getting a refund on tuition. Maybe it's different now but it was very unprofessional back then.

  4. Not sure I've heard of Peace Love Karate but thanks for the heads up. Has anyone tried Busto's or Tiger Schulman's?

  5. I tried Busto's. My daughter was five. It was good - nice people, clean, but crowded. The sensei was about 15 and it didn't seem goal oriented, but my daughter enjoyed it. It became cost prohibitive, about $125 per month compared to $35 for dance and $125 for a full season of soccer.

  6. The $$$$ is my issue with Busto's also. I viewed a class going on. It just looked like the kids were randomly jumping around, not much structure but people speak so highly of it. Maybe I just caught them at an off moment.
