Where do people take their kids on rainy days in the summer?

  1. Bowling, movies, museums--esp the Children's Museum and Air and Space...Dave and Busters, rock climbing at the place right here in Plainview, the library, Michael's craft store has classes for kids, go to NYC ( good time to go as the weather is bad and things may not be crowded) the Vanderbuilt Planetarium, stay home and cook/bake, and here is my favorite...buy a box of dog buscuits and go to a shelter and feed the dogs. Don't know if the TOB shelter lets you do this, but there is a shelter in Freeport that does and I bring my clients (I work with kids ) there

  2. my top suggestions for low cost things to do with kids

sweetbriar nature preserve in smithtown - free - can go hiking, easy trails, animals to see, and butterfly house is $3 a person

avalon nature preserve in stony brook - can feed ducks at the pond and go for a hike - easy trails -very well maintained

get library museum passes for museums that have admission fees - you have to do this in advance but it can save some money

  4. Free Movies in a movie theater is one of my favorites! The Clearview Cinemas have a kids club and this summer they will be playing AstroBoy, Hotel for Dogs, Ice Age3, etc. Participating theaters are a bit far, but if it's icky out who cares?- Port Washington, Franklin Square, and Babylon.

  5. Seems that AMC Movies has a $1 a head "summer Camp" program as well. Starting June 22nd. Including Madagascar2, Beware Spiderwick and Imagine that with Eddie Murphy.

  6. The movie theater at the Broadway mall has a Wednesday morning free kids' movie program. The child has to write a book report (Download the form from their website) and give it to them as payment for themselves. The adults who bring the kids are free.

  7. Slots a Lot is great. You can go there and rent track time and we did my son's birthday party there last year. It's not that close to Plainview but it isn't a party factory. It was reasonably priced, they were very professional, very attentive to the kids and the pizza they bring in was good. There is only a limited number of seats per track so we kept the invites to that number so that kids could always race and didn't have to wait for a turn. We rented time on the difficult track so parents could play also. The parents took turns racing and it was a lot of fun.
