How about someone bring up the issue of the teachers contract that is in SECRET NEGOTIATIONS.
Is the board going to cave in again?
As reported in Newsday last week:
the state comptroller has lowered the estimated return on investment of the pensions which means that we the TAX PAYERS will be on the HOOK for an estimated EXTTRA 5% INCREASE IN PENSION OBLIGATIONS.This is not a rumor but more likely an under estimate of how much more that we will be paying. Resident should look at their current tax bill and add an extra 5% to it and that will be what you will be paying next year , if not more unless drastic cuts are made in our budget that should come from the cost of labor not on the backs of working class citizens like ourselves who work a lot longer hours (that is for those residents who are fortunate to still be employed). I would like to know when are we going to stand up as a community and say enough is enough.

ReplyDeleteA comment about school supplies- Why do students need to have 2" binders for 1 subject? These binders are over $10 at Staples and are extremely bulky. Between two kids, it cost over $60 for binders alone. Kids can empty binders and don't need to carry around months of old assignments. And then "specials" need their own binders, too, which means more trips to Staples. The most annoying is this 2-inch requirement. Backpack has to be expensive one (over $40) to fit these wide binders. We used to have 1 binder for all subjects or used those thin 1". These don't even fit on a school desk. Did learning change? These binders aren't even comfortable to write in. Also a three-hole punch for EACH binder? More money in the toilet. On sale $3 each, off sale 4.49. Found out school store has good price, less than $3. Too late. Spent $20 in 3-hole punches. Ridiculous.
