OBP Alternate view of PTA Meeting...

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Public participation guilt trip?":

I was there and that is not what the principal said! she stated that teachers were upset that they couldn't go into their classrooms early or stay late. She stated she would be putting letters in files for insubordination and also said children and instruction should be the focus right now. I'm sure its rumors like this that will make this situation even worse, pitting adults against adults. She is right. Focus on the childrens' instruction.

Ed's note; I would appreciate more view points on this.

  1. I agree with you. The principal did not at all discourage parents from speaking about the situation to the BOE. Nor did she appear to be sheilding the teachers or helping with their plight. Let's not start more trouble or problems than we already have here.

  2. What you wrote is accurate.
I wish the parents who agree that instruction should be the priority and not wasted time on parties would have been more vocal. It was as if some parents were joyous that a teacher would get a letter in his/her file because s/he didn't want to have a party and felt like actually teaching instead! This is a bad thing? With everyone complaining about how much teachers are getting paid, has anyone actually stopped to figure out how much that party is costing us?

  3. if a teacher is tenured, how does a letter of insubordination affect them?

who's reading their file? are they looking for new jobs that this would even matter?

does a letter of insubordination mean that person is ineligible for step raises, contract increases, pension?

i think that in this situation, a letter of insubordination will be a badge of honor, something to proud of, not embarassed about

a scar of a true labor leader

things are going haywire here because there is no system for accountability

    it's a free-for-all

parents should not have to be policing this - they should not have been subjected to this

it should have been stopped weeks ago by those in administrative capacity who have had access to classrooms from the first day of school

it should have been stopped before it got this far - these letters of insubordination should have been handed out the second week of school when classrooms weren't decorated

this is a separate problem from the contract negotiation

teachers used the yankees in a youtube about statistics about raises

in major league sports, certain offenses are punishable by cash fines.

the a-rods are accountable for their behavior -teachers should be also
