New Attorney?

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Ms. Nelkens- the Only Voice We Hear From?":

Maybe the schools attorney needs to be replaced considering the contract he negotiated. We need some one new who can do a better job

  1. The attorney negotiates on behalf of the BOE. He does only what the BOE tells him to with one voice as opposed to seven BOE trustees negotiating directly with the PCT.

If you want someone to blame for giving the teachers a raise blame it on the 5 board memebers who approved the contract not the attorney.

  2. Isn't the attorney also responsible for recommending the last two superintendents? While the BOE makes the ultimate decision, I am sure his guidance has a heavy impact. If he offers up a weak replacement, it gives him more control.

  3. I think the Attorney did a horrible job negotiating the labor contracts. He should be replaced along with the BOE members. Where were the compromises? we got nothing in return . Nothing for our children who everybody is afraid will be the only ones affected if we vote the budget down. If we vote for this budget our children will still be negatively affected and the PCT will be the last ones to be affected

  4. The attorney is the one that has negotiated the labor contracts . Look at the last few contracts .changing our school days from a 5-day to a 6-day, the teachers not giving us anything for the increase salaries, step increases, etc. How can this guy not be partially blamed. How about we get a better negotiator for our contracts. Someone who looks after the best interests of the Children, the taxpayers, and then the employees. We should also refrain from calling anybody an idiot on this blog . Everybody has a right to their opinion, right, wrong , or indiferent.

  5. People, you don't get it!!!!! The attorney can be anyone, he is merely the spokeperson that represents the board of ed. Those brilliant people (boe)came up with this killer contract themselves. If he had anything to do with it don"t you think he would have settled it LAST YEAR!!!! Think about it

  6. The BOE doesn't really do all out campaigns to look for people. Ads in the NY Times are miniscule and give a very small time frame to respond. They didn't employ a search firm. It's a merry-go-round of these recycled people and I am sure the lawyer knows many of them since he represents so many school districts. That could be a good thing but judging from the results of the last 2 choices - especially Brooks and his no-numbers math program - they are not always good fits for our community.

  7. I fear for the sanity of Plainview. It is obvious that most of the people who post comments are ikk advised at best and ignorant at worst.

  8. If the board doesn't feel the lawyer is doing a good job negotiating then they can decide to not renew his contract or bring in another negotiator.

Blaming the lawyer for the 6-day cycle is extreme. If the wellness policy eliminates birthday cupcakes should we blame him also? Is it his fault there is no ELA curriculum and teachers give too much homework?

We pay a lot of money for a superintendent to head the district. He's the leader. It's not going so great here since he became official. Maybe it's his tactics of stalling, avoiding questions, focusing on unimportant issues, making board meetings way too long and changing what he says from meeting to meeting that's a problem. Maybe it's him, not the lawyer. Think about it.

  9. Ask the BOE to explain how the contract process works at the next BOE meeting. Ask how the superintendent and other administrative jobs get filled.

  10. I think our superintendent is the best! He never answers a question! Wish I can do that at my job. He thinks the people of this town are idiots.
