An observational aria of Life in Plainview, New York (Long Island).
So if we pass budget after budget then what happens?
ReplyDeleteon top of the large amount of homes for sale now in Plainview , the number of for sale homes will grow and grow as the taxes climb and climb while our property values deline and decine because people do not want to move here because of the huge tax base. Could our children buy our homes to stay in Plainview similar to what our parents may have done? no Because they will not be able to afford it . If the school wants to pay the teacher tons of money then they will have to cut somewhere else and then and only then will you get enough residents to wake up and turn the system upside down and take back the control of our school from the teachers.
who is going to buy a house here if they find out that the budget didn't pass?
ReplyDeleteNUmbers are approximate.
ReplyDeleteOn an average home the budget increase is about $250 on what you paid for school taxes last year. If the budget doesn't pass and it goes into contingency, it's about $3 million less, we pay what we paid last year.
In a contingency budget there are no capital improvements (fixing POB, etc.) and no purchases of equipment (about $1.6 million). There is also another $1.4 million that would have to be taken out of the budget. The BOE decides those cuts - that's where sports, busing, layoffs and other things can be cut.
The chances are more likely that they will see the tax bill long before the news of a budget not passing
