Sports Is Not Important When The Academic Level Falls Short

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Vote No, Unless there is Shared Pain":

The school district falls short in so many areas. I intend to vote against the budget. Programs will be cut. Jobs will be lost. If I felt my children were on anyone's list of priorities in this district, I would be happy to vote for amenities for everyone else. Since I am the only one who prioritizes my children, I have no choice but to act in my own best interest, which means lower taxes. I cannot worry about sports scholarships when the mediocre academic won't prepare our children to compete at the college level in the first place.

  1. The sad part is the politics in this school is sickening. It goes through out the sports programs and other activities like the plays that go on. The teachers all play the politics with who gets on the teams or has a part in the play. Then you put those teachers with those parents who live their lives trough their kids with no regard for any other parents or children. It is just sickening. And why should I vote for this budget?

  2. It's been my experience that the majority of Plainview residents usually vote for the budget. Only in very rare instances has this not been the case. I am voting against it, if only to make a statement that there are people in the community who are not pleased with the current state of our school system. It's doubtful if it will really affect anything but at least it's a way for me to cast my feelings into the pool.

  3. Seniors usually vote against the budget. It tends to pass but if parents upset the usual balance the vote might be close and the budget might not pass. That would be a nightmare for all parents and our community. If you are not pleased with the current state of our school system you need to tell the school board about that. A vote against the school budget might mean (1) disapproval of teacher contract (2) disapproval of the state of education (3)disapproval of some expenditures or (4) inability to afford it because of your own personal financial position. If we want to change things we need to take charge and speak up and demand the schools we want. Voting down a budget is a statement but it is vague and is only going to make next year horrible for the kids.

  4. Voting down the budget isn't going to change the contract for teachers, that is a contract and can't be broken. You want to show your disapproval, make sure the current board member who voted for that teacher contract doesn't get elected. Who is that board member who voted YES for the teacher contract? none other than Gary Bettan! You want to vote NO vote NO to Bettan!
