Vote No, Unless there is Shared Pain

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The Voice of Plainview":

The New jersey Governor has a good suggestion that he has given his Taxpayers "VOTE NO ON SCHOOL BUDGETS WHERE THERE IS NO SHARED SACRIFICE". If our teachers do not want to share in the economic hardships and sacrifices that we the taxpayers have endured then the budget should be voted down and the incumbents voted out.

  1. Voting down the budget here is NOT going to change how much money the teachers get. Extras will get cut like sports teams. Teachers will get paid whatever is in their contract. Don't you remember what happened in Plainedge a few years ago? Kids who might be able to get a sports scholarship for college lose that opportunity since there is no team for them to play on because the budget got voted down. Is our community going to cough up hundreds of thousands of dollars to get those back in place? Think about the big picture before you do something that will take away from kids.

  2. If you can not afford to live in Plainview due to the outrageous tax bill , what is worse? should people be forced to move out of their homes? the answer is no. That is the big picture. I have not seen to many children from Plainview in the NFL,NBA,NHl,or MLB. Besides if you are not disturbed by the outrageous school taxes that we pay then you should have no problem paying for your children's college tuition

  3. I agree voting down this budget won't change how money is distributed to the teachers. The budget for this year has spared many programs for our children. What we can do is speak up at BOE meetings not on this blog but at meetings because the teachers will be negotiating another contract very soon (this last agreement was for only 2 years). Also their are other unins in our district looking for payouts other than the teachers; administrators, principals, janitors, etc. All of these jobs draw pensions and further increase our taxes. They should all have "shared pain" and freeze salaries.

  4. Payouts ? forget it. If they want to leave , how about someone on the board get the guts to say NO, no, no. We do not have the money for payouts. If you want to leave then tell them to leave and retire already or lay them off if we can not afford to employ them. That is the very reason why I will vote the budget down, no on the capital improvement surplus, and any incumbent BOE member running again. If we give them the surplus, that will be more of our money that they will just wastefully play with.
