Fair Pay for a Fair Day of Work?

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "High Priced Mediocrity":

The reason why no one is complaining in Syosset is because of the income if you did not notice. The overall wealth in Syosset is 10 times greater than here . The bottom line is we got shafted . The PCT president should be ashamed of himself. It is people like him that cause people to dislike and despise unions and what they stand for. Look up labor history and you will see that unions were formed to get a fair days pay for a fair day of work not total arrogance and ignorance of every one around and the effects they have on the backs of working class people. If the teachers union had competition then they and the BOE would not be as arrogant as they are jamming raises down our throats . I hope they continue to open charter schools tenfold around New York and teach unions like the PCT that they need a dose of reality. I look foward to the day when parents can freely choose between a charter school and a public school . Then and only then will we get the best education possible

  1. I am not a fan of Charter schools. What we have to do is take back control of our school from the teachers union.
If you look at the new budget almost every area has cutbacks except for teachers salaries and raises. almost 70 pct of our budget increases are going to the teachers $ 1,700,000.

If the budget does not pass ( I hope it does) the only further cuts must be the firing of teachers. The Teachers Union is the Cancer of plainview and if you only cut around the cancer it will keep getting bigger.

The only way to stop the cancer is by cutting into it directly. Maybe then the PCT members will feel the same finacial pain as the residents of POB

  2. Your right there is a cancer in our school district. The only way to get rid of it is by voting the school budget down. I hope the budget does not pass as well as the capital reserve proposal to teach the PCT and the BOE a lesson about being reckless. When they do start cutting from the school , lets start with the teachers first. This is a problem that the BOE and the PCT brought on. No matter how many elections it takes I will never vote for any of the board members who voted to pass that labor contract. I would rather see a failed budget then the same old politics as usual in POB that has been going on too long

  3. So you want increased class sizes? Vote down the budget and thats what you'll get. And if that happens when we read this blog in the future it will be all about how the district no longer provides services. Wake up people!
If any of you would take the time to research labor contracts for the public sector ( police, teachers, fire or other public employees) you would find that a majority of the budget is ear marked fro saleries.

  4. So you want to pay 10,11,12 14 thousand on taxes?
if you don't mind paying the taxes so much then try private school how about that. As stated on the official PCT website, the teachers joined the union in the 50's because they were not getting treated fairly by the their employer which was the POB school. Like originally posted , a fair days pay for a fair days work. After all these years the table has turned . It is the POB residents who are not being treated fairly as they continue to get shafted by the PCT and the BOE over outrageous taxes and rediculous salaries. I looked up last years salaries which is public information complete with names. I will not mention the names but if you go down the list it looks something like this:$112,000,$107,000, $126,000, $97,000, $95,000, $116,000 etc. Is that enough to make me vote down the budget?yes It is sickening what these people make on the backs of Plainview resident. If we lose services then go to a board meeting and complain. Because it will be the fault of the BOE and the greedy PCT. We had a pricipal retire last year and he was taking in over 3,000 a week. It that justified? Someone has to say enough is enough and that is by voting this budget down, no on the capital reserve and voting for Cepeda,Shulman , and Nelkins
