How come Syosset isn't complaining about their teacher raises? They got raises and it didn't get ugly there. The Syosset union president isn't the public enemy of the community. Could it be that Syosset is more satisfied with the education and the way things are run in their district and they also know that their homes are more desireable and valuable than ours simply because of their schools? There's no reason why we can't have the same thing but someone has got to have a plan and be running the show and making it happen. The right people are not in place to do that and until that happens all we've got is high-priced mediocrity.

There's a 15 year age difference between my two children. My older one (in college now) went through the Syosset schools. After she graduated, we moved to Plainview. Syosset has its problems too. Their PR is better as are their test scores. They've got the curriculum necessary for academic success down to a science. For this, we regret ever having left Syosset. On the negative side, the school district is huge which leads to many challenges with everything from administration to instruction. While Plainview seems very lax about test preparation, Syosset is the extreme opposite. Also, it's so competitive there that the mainstream of students often get lost in the shuffle.
